Bulletproof stuff I like for most fandoms (Star Wars stuff has its own category below):
- Curtain fic. Feel free to give me all the fic about dudes trying new recipes together, cuddling on the couch after a long roadie, cuddling DURING a roadie, or just cuddling at home on their new couch that they’re really proud of buying.
- Power dynamics: Kneeling, Dom/sub, and A/B/O. As long as rookies, subs, and Omegas have the same rights as veteran players, Doms, and Alphas, I am all about these tropes. My absolute favorite aspect is the caretaking and, for hockey fandoms, tenderness aspect of the vet/Dom/Alpha taking care of their submissive, so if you wanted to write a fic all about that, I am down for it. I also like it when the team is made up of mostly Alphas or Doms, and so all of them make a point of being protective of (one of) their only Omega(s) or sub(s).
- Team as family. I love the protectiveness and tenderness and the willingness to stand up for your teammates. I especially like it when rookies who haven’t had the best home life or the nicest family join the team and find themselves barely comprehending that they’re loved and accepted.
- No homophobia AUs. I know coming out and angst about being in the closet is a big part of the fandoms I requested, but I personally would prefer if homophobia wasn’t an issue in the fic at all.
- Hurt/Comfort fic. I am all about one character being put through angst and then getting rescued by their love interest and friends and being coddled and cared for. One of my favorite scenarios in hockey fic is when evil!management is sexually exploiting/abusing a team member who has to kept it a secret for whatever reason and angsts and isolates himself from the rest of the team, and then their teammates find out and are outraged and protective. If you want to do something along those lines or even something entirely different, I know I’d love to read it. Or if you want to do something else, like a character having an abusive boyfriend and the team finding out, or a rape recovery fic from an incident that happened during junior hockey, I’d love to read that, too.
- Sick fic. I absolutely adore it when a character is sick but he refuses to admit and tries to persist onward only for his friends to push him back into bed and insists that he rest. If this guy actually goes ahead and tries to play a game only to collapse dramatically on the ice and make everyone frantic with worry, even better.
- Supernatural Elements. I love how a lot of hockey fic includes magical realism as part of the hockey world, and I love all the werewolf and pack fics, too. I also love stuff where a character gets cursed and has to find a way to undo the curse. The only supernatural creature I’m not too big on are vampires, but other than that, I’m down with anything. You want to make all of the team dryads or were-centaurs? You rock on.
- Tenderness and fluff. I have a huge things for guys sleeping in the same bed and just cuddling, even platonically. And I just enjoy dudes worrying for each other and making sure their (boy)friends are okay and wanting to take care of them. Even just curling up beside each other on the team plane or bus is wonderful to me.
- Smut. By no means do you have to write smut, but if you’re feeling the urge to write some deep dicking, here are a few ideas. I love blushy and sweet bottoms, especially if they pretend to be all cool and unaffected at first, and I love cute, shy boys in lingerie. I also love it when bottoms get absolutely overwhelmed by the size of the top’s dick and really struggle to take it, and also if even as they’re intimidated by the huge size, they still break down and beg to get railed. Overstimulation is good, too. Basically I love bottoms getting their minds absolutely blown.
- Mpreg. I love it, especially when the other partner is very protective of their expecting partner. Plus stuff when the other partner goes out of their way to be thoughtful and make sure the expecting partner is comfortable when the pregnancy is starting to take its toll is one of my favorite things to see in mpreg fic. Even if you want to do a fic about one of my requested characters getting pregnant by some rando and the team stepping up to take care of him (and maybe one member stepping up in particular?), that would be great with me.
- Kidfic. I just love tough hockey dudes with kids, so pretty much anything is great. If you want a specific prompt, an idea that I had is that maybe a character got pregnant in high school, and the other dad walked out, so they then had to temporarily shelve his hockey dreams while he took care of his child. Maybe he’s been hiding this from the team out of shame, and the team finds out and is absolutely delighted to meet their kid? (I’ve been picturing a daughter for this scenario, but if you want to give the player a son, go for it). And meeting the player’s kid and feeling OUTRAGED that the other dad left them to raise the kid alone forces a teammate to recognize that he has feelings for him?
- Age Difference. Not much to say here other than that I’m into older guy/younger guy, and I don’t mind daddy kink.
Other stuff I like:

One thing I’ll say is that I absolutely adore Chara, and I think he’s a great captain, and I love his father-son, older brother-younger-brother relationship with Charlie McAvoy, and all of my ships involve either one or both of them. So if you’re looking for ideas, a cute scene with the two of them together, even if it’s not romantic, is something that I will always treasure. I also like the friendship/bromance between Charlie and Gryz and their backstory of meeting at college, so feel free to include any moments with them that you want.

**To expand on my thoughts about bi erasure, I would prefer that if you are writing a same-sex pairing where one or both of the characters was presented with heterosexual inclinations in canon (ie, interest in the opposite sex, opposite sex love interest, etc.) that they be presented in the fic as bisexual rather than gay.

Exchange Year in Review
Jan. 14th, 2018 06:54 pm It's hard to believe that it's been over a year since I first started exchanges! I started in Yuletide 2016, and then went onto Chocolate Box Round 2, Young Justice Fest, FamilyEx, Night on Fic Mountain, Rare Male Slash Ex, Rarepair Fest, Riverdale Fic Exchange, Fandom Stocking, and then Yuletide again, this time for 2017!
I have to say, there's a certain excitement to doing exchanges. It's so much for to nominate, write your letter, and then sign up yourself while watching all the new sign-ups come in. And having a deadline helps procrastinators like me stay on target.
Inevitably, I've been hit with nocommenters in several exchanges. One for Yuletide 2016, one for Chocolate Box, one for Young Justice Fest, and two for Riverdale Fic Exchange. It's an unfortunate reality of gift exchanges, I suppose.
I've really enjoyed writing in all of these exchanges, and I hope to add a few more to my list. I'm currently in the process of completing fics for Chocolate Box Round 3.

Jul. 27th, 2017 08:18 pmI'm writing a fic right now that's somewhat challenging in its characterization, and it got me thinking: how do you tackle characters dealing with emotions or reacting to situations they've never come close to encountering in canon? Or them consciously choosing to change who they are as a person?
For me, my fic is a Riverdale/Archie Comics fic for the FP Jones/Kevin Keller pairing called "Second Time Around." It has FP Jones, a rough and tough gang leader in canon, now trying to step up in his role as a newly single parent, as well as trying act more like a gentleman in order to convince Kevin Keller to stay with him. It can get difficult, because the situation in itself requires FP to change from how he is in canon into someone who's more gentle and caring, so it can very easily stretch the willing suspension of disbelief.
And now I'm curious! How do you, as a writer, believably keep a character as themselves while writing about them acting differently than how they are in canon, or willingly choosing to act unlike themselves?

Earlier this year, I had some thoughts (here, here, here, and here) on how the Riverdale TV series, based off of Archie Comics, treated Kevin Keller, who debuted several years ago as the franchise's first gay character. I was not pleased by the show's treatment of him, as the portrayal seemed rooted in dated stereotypes and unwilling to go beyond them, so it was with some trepidation that I picked up Riverdale #4, an issue of the associated comic book which focuses on Kevin.
