*I know homophobia/biphobia would/does exist in some of these canons, but I would vastly prefer if you just took the route where homophobia/biphobia is completely a non-issue and is just as readily accepted as heterosexual relationships.
**To expand on my thoughts about bi erasure, I would prefer that if you are writing a same-sex pairing where one or both of the characters was presented with heterosexual inclinations in canon (ie, interest in the opposite sex, opposite sex love interest, etc.) that they be presented in the fic as bisexual rather than gay.
Season 5 Dean sets up probably my favorite era for his character, mostly because of the potential for delicious angst after he finds out he’s a clone. I love him emo-ing it up in the attic, and I love him the goth makeover he gives himself with his black speedsuit and black-dyed emo haircut. I’m also really intrigued by the actions he takes once he finds out he’s a clone, such as keeping it a secret from Hank and trying to reach out to the woman he thinks might be his mother.
Mostly I want happiness and success for Dean—I really don’t want him repeating the same cycle of failure that Rusty’s stuck in of trying to follow his father. I really enjoy the best friend/brother relationship he has with Hank, and I like the scenes of Brock helping him prepare for college in Season Six and move into the dorms in Season Seven, and I also enjoy how that kind of called back to Dean helping Brock study for his secret agent certification back in Season One’s “Midlife Chrysalis.” I liked the parts in Season Five where Hatred was worrying over Dean or trying to bond with him, I like that Dean took him flowers in Season Six, and I also really liked the deleted scene of Hatred mistakenly thinking Dean was in a relationship with Brown Widow but fully supporting them.
Dean Venture & Bobbie Saint Simone
- Dean is pretty consistently the one to bring up their lack of a mother and express interest in meeting her (“The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay,” “Midlife Chrysalis,” “Perchance to Dean,” and of course, “Momma’s Boys.” But what’s fascinating to me is that he only actively tries to seek out his mother after finding out that he’s a clone. I’d be really interested in a fic that either explores what it means to him to have a mother in his life at this point, since he’s pretty much an adult who has never had a mother figure and doesn’t actually need one at this point. So what does having a mom mean to him right now? Is solving this mystery just really important to him? Is he doing it just to know his own past? Does he think finding his mother would resolve some of the more dysfunctional aspects of his family?
- Alternatively, a fic with Dean continuing to try to find their mother, even after they’ve moved to New York City. Maybe he digs through newspaper morgues to try to find public appearances by his dad and see if she appears in any photos with him? Or perhaps he hits up his dear old Pop-Pop (Colonel Gentleman) to try to pry information out of him? Just anything with Dean trying to investigate who his mother was and what happened to her. Feel free to either go AU or try to keep this in line with the Season Seven finale; I’m fine with any way you’d like to tackle this idea. You don’t even have to have Dean meet her; leaving it unresolved would be fine with me.
Brock Samson & Dean Venture
- A fic where Brock finds out that Dean knows he’s a clone. How does he take it?
- I really like the idea that Brock was the one to give Dean his stuffed giraffe. A few thoughts that I had was that was that maybe Brock won it for him when he took Dean and Hank to a carnival when they were little kids, or that it was a guilt gift due to some kind of parenting failure, but I’d be interested in any idea you had for it.
- Brock reacting to Dean’s Season 5 emo look and attitude.
- A fic where Dean goes supervillain (mostly to get out from under his father’s thumb) bust still keeping in touch with Brock in spite of it.
- A fic where Dean starts to become more and more like his grandfather and gains success but becomes a worse and worse person and how Brock feels about it, given that he pretty much raised Dean.
- A meet-the-parents fic where Dean brings home his SO for Brock to meet. I’m very partial to Jared and Sirena, but I’m very open to mostly any pairing here, barring Triana, because I feel that her choice not to date Dean should be respected.
- A successful and happy Dean meeting up with Brock after spending a long time away, and Brock having that bittersweet parent feeling where he’s proud that Dean is doing well for himself but also kind of sad Dean isn’t a kid anymore and no longer needs him like he used to.
The Trixie Belden Mysteries
I’ve always been intrigued by Dan’s character and his relationships with the other characters, but he get so little focus in canon that the readers never get a lot of insight to his interpersonal interactions. I’m really curious about what other people think of him, and what he thinks of them. One of my favorite Dan moments is when he instantly goes to help Trixie save Bobby when she asks in The Black Jacket Mystery despite 90% of their previous interaction being them insulting each other, and when he tries to fight off a mountain lion with a switchblade to
One thing I’d prefer not to receive is a huge focus on Dan’s criminal past. Of course, mentioning it is unavoidable, but I’m not really a fan of the longstanding trend in fandom to write him as someone desperately atoning for his past sins who joined the BWGs as a way to make amends for wrongs he committed. I tend to see him as someone who turned to crime out of desperation and the need to survive, given the deaths of both his parents, and has accepted that he did what he had to do then and doesn’t continue with it anymore. I’m more interested in seeing his current thoughts and relationships than him endlessly recriminating himself over his past.
Dan Mangan & Mr. Maypenny
I’ve always thought Mr. Maypenny must have been one hell of a guy to take in an unknown juvenile delinquent. I’d be happy about anything with him and Dan bonding.
Why did Mr. Maypenny agree to take Dan in? Canon has it as a favor to Regan, but there had to have been something more at work. Was he lonely living out in the woods by himself? Was he estranged from his family and trying to make up for it by taking in Dan? Something else?
Something set during the two weeks of Dan missing during The Mystery of the Uninvited Guest or when Dan’s been found again. Mr. Maypenny was mentioned as having stopped cooking for himself and devoting all his spare time to looking for Dan, so it’s obvious that Dan means a lot to him, and he must have been relieved when Dan was found. What was he thinking and going through during that time?
Dan comes home badly beaten after a mystery with Trixie and Honey went awry; Mr. Maypenny patches him up and makes sure that he rests.
Mr. Maypenny becoming more and more accustomed to the “dad” role and worrying if Dan’s getting enough to eat or staying up to wait for Dan when he comes home late at night, and realizing just how much Dan has come to mean to him.
Dan (and perhaps BWGs of your choice?) run afoul of criminals/poachers on some part of the Wheeler property; Mr, Maypenny shows up with a shotgun to kick criminal ass and rescue them.
Dan Mangan & Bill Regan
I’d love to see anything that has Regan coming to care for Dan or realizing that even though he didn’t choose to be Dan’s guardian, Dan still means a lot to him.
Dan is captured/cornered by criminals after getting involved in a mystery with Trixie and Honey; Regan charges in to rescue him.
Regan is Dan’s uncle, but Regan is close to all the BWGs. How does Dan feel about this? Does he ever feel jealous or insecure? Does he ever compare himself to the other BWGs? Does he ever think that Regan likes them better? How does he overcome this? Or maybe Regan struggles with Dan being more cynical and savvy than the other BWGs, but ultimately accepts Dan for who he is?
Regan helping Dan after Dan’s been hurt in some way (a mystery, an accident on the game preserve, mishap while baby-sitting Bobby Belden, etc).
Anything that focuses on Regan taking more of a parental role to Dan.
Regan being reluctant to get close to Dan at first, but then Dan gradually and unknowingly begins to endear himself to Regan, and Regan eventually has to admit to himself that Dan really does mean a lot to him.
Dan Mangan/Jim Frayne
They don’t really have all that much canon interaction, but I really like the idea of Dan finding happiness with a good guy like Jim. Anything featuring them as a couple would make me happy, but I have few ideas if you’re interested.
Something with an arranged marriage where Dan is a little uncertain at first, but Jim welcomes him into his home and his family.
An A/B/O fic where Dan is Alpha Jim’s treasured Omega and Jim loves to spoil him.
A sugar daddy-type fic where, even though he isn’t a particularly materialistic person, Jim loves to spoil Dan by buying him nice clothes and all sorts of gifts to show how much he loves him. Dan is kind of taken aback, but grateful all the same.
Hurt/comfort with Dan as the one who’s hurt and Jim needs to comfort him. Are they stranded somewhere by a blizzard on the game preserve? Are they lost in the woods due to a mystery of Trixie’s or general BWG misadventures? Maybe Dan’s been roughed up by baddies?
Fic where Jim goes out of his way to make sure Dan feels welcomed in Sleepyside and lets him know he has a place in the BWGs, which leads to him discovering his feelings for Dan.
Dan Mangan/Mart Belden
I think it’s really sweet that Mart gives Dan his BWG jacket to wear, especially since it’s embroidered with Mart’s name. I’d love to read a fic with Mart first presenting Dan with the jacket or where it really thrills Mart to see Dan wearing his jacket. Or maybe a friends-to-lovers fic where someone gets the wrong idea from seeing Dan wear Mart’s jacket, and compliments one of the boys, because they think they’re in a relationship, which then prompts the one to realize his true feelings for the other?
I really just like the idea of Mart and Dan settling down together as young adults after college. Maybe a curtain fic about them doing some work on a fixer-upper?
Since Dan doesn’t go on a lot of trips, I think it would be really cool if Mart always made a point of bringing Dan some souvenir or another. Maybe a fic with him hunting for the perfect gift for Dan and realizing his true feelings along the way, or a fic about them as an established couple with Mart giving the souvenir to Dan?
A few times the BWG boys are working as counselors at a sleepaway summer camp. Maybe some kind of shenanigans with them as co-counselors and substitute parents to a bunch of wild kids?
A fic about them on the game preserve or Wheeler property, either camping out together or going skinny-dipping in the lake or something else entirely.
I feel like Mart would be a good rock, and I love hurt/comfort, so I’d always be down for a fic about them getting stranded or captured by baddies and Dan is hurt and Mart has to help him soldier on and care for him until they’re out of danger.
Check Please!
My ultimate ship is Kent/Happiness. I really adore the fanon of Kent being the one to find Jack after his overdose, and I also subscribe to the theory that Jack ghosted on him afterward. I tend to see Kent and Jack’s past relationship as one where Kent tried to help and be there for Jack, but it simply wasn’t enough. I’m not particularly attached to the fanon about Kent having BPD or another mental illness, and would prefer if that wasn’t included, and I’m not a fan of fic of Kent apologizing to Jack and Bitty. I’m not big on “Kent goes to therapy fics,” but I am intrigued by characterizations from him when he lingering guilt or PTSD about Jack’s OD.
Kent Parson/Las Vegas Aces
I’m fine with this scenario being one in the kneeling verse where Kent as a rookie is kneeling for a veteran or multiple veterans, or this being an A/B/O situation where star rookie Kent is a rare Omega in pro sports and the test of the team or the senior members are expected to serve as his Alphas. Or it could be a scenario where Kent is simply dating one or multiple members of the team.
It’s not public knowledge that Kent was the one to find Jack after his overdose, but one by one, a few of the Aces put it together.
A few members of his team showing Kent that they honestly do care about him, and Kent realizing that he’s finally found other people to trust.
If in a kneeling or A/B/O universe: Kent used to kneel/sub for Jack, but after Jack’s overdose, Kent blames himself for being too needy and thinking enough of Jack. He’s too depressed/guilt-ridden to have any type of sexual urges, which raises questions and curiosity when Kent is assigned to sub/kneel for an Ace veteran (or veterans). Gradually, Kent’s veteran(s) bring him out of his wallowing and show him that he’s worthwhile and worth caring for.
Another kneeling or A/B/O universe idea: as if becomes more and more evident that his dom/Alpha (Jack) has ended their relationship, Kent goes into subdrop that soon starts affecting his physical health. Another Ace or Aces steps in to give him the reassurance he needs.
Aftercare for Kent after a night of intense sex.
Kent going out to Vegas alone right after Jack’s overdose, generally feeling awful and guilty and kind of like he stole Jack’s life from him. One or a few of the Aces figures out he’s going through something rough, even if they don’t know exactly what it is, and try to comfort him.
Kent gradually letting down his walls and letting in other people after Jack as has OD’d and ghosted him.
Anything with Kent getting over Jack and bonding with his Ace teammates once he arrives in Vegas.
Kent Parson/Jeff Troy, Kent Parson/Scrappy
Jeff or Scrappy mentoring Kent when he first comes to Vegas and eventually falling for him.
Something with A/B/O, where Kent is an Omega and damaged after Jack, his former Apha, ODed, and Jeff or Scrappy is assigned by the Aces to be his service Alpha, meant to attend to Kent’s needs and comfort him, but eventually finds himself falling for a still badly hurt Kent and must then help him pick up the pieces.
Something with kneeling, like in hockey RPF, where Kent is expected to kneel for Jeff or Scrappy and does so, but is very reluctant to be involved with any of the more emotional aspects of the relationship because of his heartbreak over Jack’s overdose and subsequent ghosting of him. Jeff or Scrappy gradually coaxes Kent out of his shell. (I’ve gotten this type of fic before, and it was fantastic, but it is an absolute bulletproof trope for me, so I’m always eager for more).
Kent reestablishing contact with Bob and Alicia after they dropped out of ranger after Jack’s OD, and eventually bringing Jeff or Scrappy over to meet them when he’s invited for dinner. I really like the idea that Bob and Alicia were surrogate parents to Kent, and I’m really into the idea of Kent merging his past with his present by introducing them to his new SO.
Jeff or Scrappy helping Kent heal after Jack ghosts him.
DC Comics

I really like Cissie; her dour and almost bored recounting of her messed up life and her relationship with her mother in her origin issue grabbed me right from the start. Her complex relationship with her mom is really interesting to me, as while Cissie and Bonnie do clearly love each other, Bonnie is incredibly selfish and is seemingly unaware that she’ should protect her child from harm rather than placing her at the forefront of it, and Cissie is very aware of how utterly flawed her mother is and doesn’t respect her or really think of her as a parent. I really like that Cissie is a young heroine who is realistically uncertain of if she wants this particular role after it’s been thrust onto her, and that she continually struggles with the issue of whether she wants to be a hero or if she’s just been brainwashed by her mom into thinking she wants to be a hero.
Personally, I prefer Cissie as a masked hero. I’m fine with her questioning if being a hero is something she really wants, but I would prefer if you just went AU and ignored that she quit the Young Justice team.
Cissie King-Jones & Oliver Queen
I really enjoy the fanon that Cissie is Oliver’s daughter, and I am all for Oliver taking custody of Cissie and giving her a life away from her mother. If you’re not into this fanon, I have some other prompts that I’d be just as eager to see fic about.
I’d love to see Cissie bonding with Team Arrow: Ollie, Dinah, Roy, Lian, and Connor. But I also think it would be overwhelming for Cissie to go from having one emotionally abusive parent to adjusting to suddenly having an entire family with a father she never knew she had. I’d love to see a fic about her struggling to reconcile her very different lives and Oliver doing his best to be supportive of her throughout.
A fic where Oliver discovers Cissie is his daughter. I’m fine with him finding out before her or with him finding out and she already knew but hadn’t told him. I have a few ideas for the latter: maybe they’re both in mortal peril and Cissie tells Oliver as a dying confession, but then they’re both rescued and they have to figure out their relationship? Or maybe Cissie is in danger and one of her Young Justice teammates spills the beans to Oliver in order to prompt him to rescue her? I just really like the idea of Oliver being shocked but then elated to find out he has a daughter.
Cissie’s never had a parent treat her normally before, so I’d be interested in seeing a fic where Oliver does some fairly standard parent thing for her—show interest in one of her extracurriculars, buy her normal, non-superhero clothes, take her out to lunch—and Cissie is positively shocked and flattered by him paying attention to her actual needs and personality. How does Cissie feel that she’s been cheated out of having a parent who takes care of her? And how does Oliver feel that his daughter’s been raised to be deprived of such basic things?
A fic where Oliver, after taking custody of Cissie, introduces her as his daughter to the people closest to him: Dinah, Hal, Roy, etc.
A fic where Oliver already has custody of Cissie as his daughter when the shooting at her school takes place and must comfort her after the fallout and after she attempts to murder the shooters in revenge.
Just a fic of Oliver bringing Cissie, as his daughter, home to live with him after everything she’s been through.
So I know it’s a total prompt cliché to ask for “What if two characters with similar roles interacted?”, but I’d love to see Cissie interacting with Green Arrow in some way as someone not related to her. I’d be really curious to see what she thinks of him—I think she’d be impressed by his talent, but since he’s part of the reason her mom has such a fixation on pushing her into being a hero, maybe she also resents him, or is at least kind of reluctant to have much to do with him? And what about Ollie? Does he remember Bonnie at all, or does a chance encounter or mission with Cissie forcibly remind him of her?
I think Ollie, with his love for speechifying, would have been very impressed by Cissie’s outburst at the entire Justice League when they tried to shut down the Young Justice team. I think it would be very cool if he sought Cissie out to congratulate her on sticking to her guns and standing up for herself and her friends.
I’d love a fic about Cissie operating as Arrowette in the interval between her being placed at the Elias School and her joining the Young Justice team, and I think it would be really cool if she somehow met up with Ollie during that time, either as Green Arrow or Oliver Queen. Maybe she stops muggers from attacking this “helpless” mustachioed blond guy? Maybe she saves him as Mayor of Star City from an assassination attempt? Or maybe she teams up with Green Arrow to stop a supervillain? I’m just really into the idea of them meeting by chance and appreciating each other’s talent. (Though it’s doubtful Cissie would appreciate him asking too many questions . . .)
Cissie King-Jones & The Justice League (DCU (Comics)
I don’t think it’s ever explained how Cissie went from her glitzy white and gold “beauty pageant” outfit to her regular red Arrowette costume. But I like the idea that another DC hero helped her out with it in some way, either by giving her tips, commenting on how impractical the white and gold outfit was, or actually helping her with making a new outfit.
I’d be really curious to see more of Cissie’s encounters with other DC heroes outside of her team, either during the time when she’s out of her mother’s custody and living at the Elias School but before she joins the Young Justice team, or when she’s still in her mother’s custody and basically being pimped out for publicity. I imagine some heroes would be skeptical of her, some would be worried for her, and others would be like Max Mercury and try to call social services. Or maybe it’s so bad that even one of the more moral villains makes that call instead? Feel free to use any character(s) of your choice.
Mission fic with Cissie working together with superheroes outside of her team and earning their appreciation and respect, and maybe them also finding out how messed up her life is.
A fic where Cissie is hurt or sick and is legitimately shocked that her teammates or another hero is worried about her and tries to help her. I can’t imagine Cissie got much TLC from Bonnie when she wasn’t able to play her role, so I think it would be pleasant surprise for someone to show Cissie that her health and safety is more important than if she’s on the front page of the newspaper.
I really enjoyed the scene when Cissie takes the entirety of the Justice League to task for trying to shut down Young Justice on the basis that they’re not mature enough to be on a team together. I like that she clearly admires and respects them, but she also refuses to let herself be controlled by them. It’s possible that since the main authority figure Cissie had in her life was her mother (who was miles from being a role model) that Cissie understandably just doesn’t have much respect for authority figures. I’d be really interested to see how this influences her career as a hero, particularly since she’s not completely on board with being a hero to begin with. Does she trust the judgement of the heroes she finds herself working with? Does she trust them to help her with her mom, or does she consider herself to be on her own where that’s concerned? Or does she consider herself less than them because they choose heroism when she was pushed into it by her mother? I’d just be really interested in an exploration of how being forced into being a hero by a failed adult hero has shaped Cissie’s perspective on other adult heroes.
